My name is Matthew Airs, and I am
a freelance French/English translator, being born in Scotland and having spent half of my life in France (in 2010 I
moved from Paris to the Dordogne). I have also lived in England, Denmark, Poland and the USA. I started out as a teacher and
then, some years ago, I decided to put my bilingual abilities into use and changed my career path to become a translator.
I turned freelance in 2005.
I live alone, work hard and play hard, and am a big fan of Arsenal.
My favourite hangouts when I'm back up in Paris are the Great Canadian
on the banks of the Seine at St Michel - my current n°1 place to drink and an excellent sports bar with adorable
barmaids and good food, the Violon Dingue bar on rue de la Montagne Sainte Geneviève in
the Vth arrondissement of Paris, and the nearby Eve's Apple South African bar.
Random "Well-I-Never" facts:
- in the late 1990s, my kebab was eaten by a camel who was getting a parking ticket
(in central Paris at 3 in the morning)
- in 2003 I drove a Métro underground train
- in 2007 I got to fly the entire Bordeaux-Paris route in the cockpit with
the pilots
